How To Stop Snoring
By finding out what type of snorer you are will enable you to select an appropriate method or methods on how to stop snoring.
Look in a mirror and press one nostril closed with you finger and try and breathe through the open nostril only, not your mouth, if it has a tendency to collapse and you find it difficult to breathe then it may be worth trying nasal strips placed across the bridge of your nose. These work by opening the nostrils and can commonly be seen on sports people who need to breathe more air.
If you have difficulties breathing through your nose you may have congestion caused by an allergy. The source of the allergy needs to be 'found' to help relieve the congestion in your nose. Pets, bed mites, dust, perfumes, household bleach and feather pillows any one of these or a combination may be the 'culprit'.
If you think you are a 'mouth breather' this can be confirmed by the trying the following; make a snoring noise with your mouth open, now close you mouth and try and make the same noise, if you only snore with you mouth open the you are a 'mouth snorer' and by using commercial straps to keep your chin up such as 'Snore Calm Chin up Strips' which will gently push your chin up, closing your mouth and stop it from falling open when you are asleep.
How to stop snoring by doing the tongue test; stick your tongue out and gently hold it with your teeth and try and make a snoring type noise, if your snoring is reduced by having your tongue pushed forward then you may help prevent snoring by having a Mandibular Attachment Device, it may be advisable to seek the advice of your dentist if you consider having one of these.
If you know or think you are overweight then use a body mass index to determine whether you BMI is over 25, if it is then you are deemed to be overweight, your snoring may be reduced or stopped by loosing weight, which can be achieved by eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.
